About Nashik Range

Nashik Range:

In the year 1956, for effective policing Maharashtra State Police jurisdiction was divided into 25 Districts and 4 Ranges.

Later in 1973 Govt. of Maharashtra, Home Department raised the number of Ranges from four to six wherein Nashik Rural Range came into existence. Amravati Range started functioning having control over four districts namely Nashik, Ahmednagar, Jalgaon, Dhule. Shri W.K.Patil, IPS was the first Deputy Inspector General of Police who headed Nashik Range. Since then till 1998 Nashik Range was headed by an officer of the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police. On 1 st July 1998 Dhule district was bifurcated as two separate districts now known as Dhule and Nandurbar.

In addition on 28th sept 1990 Nashik Commissionerate was created caving out City Area from the district Nashik.

In 1998 post of Nashik range DIG was upgraded as Special Inspector General of Police, Nashik Range.

Later on 31 May 2023 Government Of Maharashtra renamed Ahmednagar district as Ahilyanagar.

Nashik Range Police is headed by Spl. Inspector General of Police having control over five districts namely, Nashik (Rural), Ahilyanagar, Jalgaon, Dhule, Nandurbar.
